Y4BB

Welcome to Year 4 – Y4BB

Our staff for 2018/19:

Mr Bradshaw with Teaching Assistant Mrs Surridge

This term in Y4 our learning question is, ‘Should everyone be heard?’

Science

We will be teaching lots of scientific knowledge, skills and understanding throughout the term and children will learn about Sound. We will be conducting different experiments. Pupils will learn how to make predictions and how to carry out an investigation. They will record their findings and draw on conclusions to discuss what they have learned.

Literacy

This term in Literacy we will be exploring and learning to write a biography and a news report. We have been learning about William Shakespeare, and how his work contributed to the development of modern-day theatre. Children will be researching Shakespeare and will write a biography about him. Our second writing topic is all about inspirational people. Children will learn about certain individuals such as Malala Yousafzai and Nick Vuljicic, and learn how their work has inspired people across the world. They will write a news article on an inspirational person of their choice.

We continue to follow the Hucklow writing sequence in order to maximise the children’s success in writing.

Maths
In maths we are learning how to solve problems involving multiplication and division.  We will use lots of concrete apparatus to help secure our understanding and extend children’s learning by challenging them with reasoning and problem solving activities.

Important information:
PE is on Tuesday mornings – please ensure your child has a PE kit in school at all times.
Music and Computing lessons are taught on Tuesday afternoon.

Homework challenges are sent home weekly – these are to be recorded in the children’s homework book.   Spellings are sent home weekly and will be tested on Fridays.

How you can help at home:
Please read with your child every day and record it in their reading planner.  Allow children chance to read the book more than once to build up fluency and a deeper understanding of events.  Help children with their homework – make it fun!
